What is community transport?

Community transport is a comprehensive, flexible, person-centred transport service designed to support people who are unable to access mainstream public or private transport. Delivered across metropolitan, regional, rural, and remote communities, this service supports older Australians, people with disability, carers, and others facing transport disadvantage to stay connected with essential services and meaningful social opportunities. Organisations, individuals, and community groups dedicated to accessible, inclusive transport — no matter their size or location — are encouraged to become members.
What we do?
ACTA is a membership organisation, representing community transport providers from all states and territories The ACTA membership is made up of community transport providers from across Australia, including not-for-profit organisations, local governments, and regional service providers. Organisations committed to accessible, inclusive transport regardless of size or location are eligible to join as members.

CHSP certainty today, the opportunity to get tomorrow right

Last month brought some genuinely welcome news for our sector. The Australian Government has confirmed that the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) will continue to 30 June 2029, providing certainty for the more than 830,000 older Australians who rely on these essential services. ACTA welcomes the announcement made by The Hon Mark Butler MP, on 20 August 2026.

iMOVE held a webinar looking at the outcomes from the National Community Transport Pricing Model (NCTPM): Sustainable community transport project. Speakers were Murray Coates, from the Australian Community Transport Association (ACTA), and Akshay Vij, from the University of South Australia.
